After completing the E-Portfolio assignments for this class I was able to really clean up my Wix page. My website had some errors and bad links and I was able to fix them and clean it up. Making my website more accessible makes it more professional because whoever is looking at it can see that I know how to use Wix and to also properly organize all of my work. The one thing I really enjoy about my E-Portfolio is my blog post section. It has been rewarding and interesting to see all of my blog posts since almost sophomore year of college and now I am a senior. It has been cool to see all of the progress I have made and all the changes I have made to my E-Portfolio over the years. The most challenging thing about my E-portfolio has been connecting my links and PDFs properly. When editing my Wix site it has been hard to properly link and add attachments without it being an error when publishing it live to my site. I have finally gotten a good handle on it but I had to adjust and get rid of a lot of important links.
The advice I would give to future students when creating your Wix page is to make it look more pretty and presentable and don't be lazy about the initial design. I don't love the way my Wix page looks in color scheme and I wish I did a better layout in the beginning. But with all the content I have uploaded and whatnot it is hard to make all the changes I want to make. It's just better for me to keep using this style and layout than creating a whole new one and adjusting all of my content. When I first made my Wix it was rushed and I didn't put enough time into it.
The component of this course that was most interesting to me was honestly the Popular Press analysis. This is because I have never done an analysis like this and I enjoyed it. It was interesting to differentiate between a popular press article and a scholarly journal article. I have never used a popular press article in any of my previous research papers and was interesting to learn more about them, and this also made my research and findings more entertaining. The popular press analysis taught me all about a formal APA formatted analysis and also just the research I conducted. It was incredibly interesting to learn about verbal and non-verbal communication and how we use it every day. It was also interesting to learn about the incredible effects of Covid-19 and our communication skills and basic communication with one another. From this analysis, I was also able to learn how interesting it is that body language and facial expressions are a universal language that almost everyone can understand.
In conclusion, this class has opened my eyes to studying verbal and non-verbal communication. I never realized how important body language, facial expressions, gestures, and tone of voice are when communicating with someone. It has made me more self-aware when I communicate with someone or when I'm trying to understand someone whom I am communicating with. For my future career, I will definitely be working with others and for others. These communication skills are helping me learn how to better understand myself and others. Knowing how to communicate and also learning the psychology and skills of communicating can allow me to be successful when communicating with others especially if I am trying to persuade someone or teach them something, I can really figure out how to get their attention and feel comfortable communicating with me.
