Introduction:
A. Does having a remote job affect someones well-being and work-life balance? I want to know if having a remote job can affect someone more negatively than having a in- person job. I believe that if someone is only working from home and on their computer they are more at risk for isolation, lack of social life, mental illness, and physical health issues. I also feel that people might also have a better lifestyle when working remote because they are able to do there work from anywhere and at anytime which gives them freedom to do what they please because there work is on there own time and they chose how much effort they want to put in.
II. Gathering Research:
A. Starting research:
a. This article is about strategies on how to maintain a work-life balance when working from home. This article also dives into why working from home is considered a new lifestyle and successful for many but not everyone. This article also explains how important it is to make sure you keep that work-life balance when working remote.
This article is about how remote work can negatively impact a person. This article dives into the real truths about remote work and how it can hurt your mental health. Some of these jobs are extremely demanding and need a lot of attention with there work needs online and this has caused stress and anxiety for some. It has also isolated people from the outside world because they are inside doing there work on there computers. This also has impacted workers because they had to learn a whole new different way to do their jobs.
III. Critical Assessment:
A. This topic is incredibly important because in todays world online work is very popular due to the 2020 Pandemic. We see a lot of businesses and companies switching and staying to remote work because they are able to hire more people doing so and it is also easier and less expensive to have a work building ect... During the pandemic tons of companies and businesses had to do remote work to reduce the spread of covid. Some people thrive off of work online and some have a hard time adapting and doing their work online.
B. The problem that needs to be solved is the issue of mental health when working from home for a long period of time or struggling to keep up with the work. Online work has caused mental illnesses because of isolation, stress and anxiety.
IV. Reflect—Thinking Beyond the Research:
A. During this research I was able to learn a lot about remote work and how much it can affect a person. They're a lot of great things about working remotely but there is also a dark side to it. But to sum it all up doing work online either as a career or just school work it really depends on the person and if they can do their work online or if they need to be in person to do it. I think that McGregory's Theory X and Y go hand and hand with this issue. This is because i feel that it explains on why people would thrive or be unsuccessful when working remotely. This theory explains on how people operate when they don't enjoy there work or they are unhappy with it and the outcomes, but this theory also explains how successful people act as well.
